Best Headphones for Recording Vocals

Best Headphones for Recording Vocals

When planning to record music, one of the important things is a good pair of high-quality studio headphones because they give you the freedom to listen to your vocals at maximum quality.

Now it is even harder to choose a great pair of headphones for your home studio due to many brands entering the market and I must admit some of them a pretty decent to say at least but most are simply not worth your money.

That is why in this article I will review the best studio headphones for recording vocals that are worth every penny and guarantees nothing but exceptional quality.

1. Sennheiser HD280 PRO Headphones

If you are like me and you prefer something simple that gets the job done, other than Aesthetics, then Sennheiser HD are made for you. These are the most popular studio headphones on the market to date(might change).

These headphones are designed with recording in mind rather than mixing(but generally work well for both) because they are closed back headphones which are incredibly amazing for recording.

What I like most about these headphones is the comfortability they bring to the table. The headband is flexible and the ear cups are big and deep enough to even fit the biggest ears on the planet.

You can wear them for hours without your ears getting tired due to decent comfortable earcups cushion.

Great sound quality for the prize, the sound on this headphones is clear, balanced and relaxed which is what most people look for when purchasing a pair of studio headphones.

one downside to these is, once you wear them for a long period of time( I mean hours & hours) the heat will start to build up and your ears might get warmer and sometimes sweaty but that is less likely.

Whats in the box

when you purchase a pair of these, you won’t get a lot of additional accessories but the essentials you need to start using and recording including:

  • Pair of Headphones
  • User manual
  • Quarter inch adapter

Pros

  • High-Quality Balanced Sound
  • Comfortable
  • Affordable
  • Well known and Trusted Brand
  • 64 impedance (greater than most normal consumer headphones)

Cons

  • Simple Design
  • Heat builds up over time

2. Sony MDR 7506

When you hear Sony, what comes to mind? Quality! and they exceeded the expectations once again.

One of the most beautifully elegant studio headphones, just like Sennheiser they are also popular on the home recording market.

Great solution for music and audio production. They have also closed back headphones and will certainly be at service when you need them.

If you are into the design and aesthetics of headphones you will certainly fall in love with these pair of great high-fidelity studio headphones. They look incredibly professional with labeled stickers on both sides of the earcups.

In terms of comfortability, I would rate this an 8 out of 10. Incredibly comfortable. They have a flexible rotation feature which makes it easier to fold them into a small item for traveling. Also, you can adjust the headband size to fit your head perfectly.

These headphones are very light which means won’t cause you any strain when you wear them for a long period of time. the leather and soft cushion integrated will not only fit well but will feel really soft and comfortable.

Sound quality is incredible for the price and I can confidently say that it competes with most higher-end studio headphones with a jaw-dropping sound Isolation, when listening with them expect nothing but clear, balanced great deep bass and you will feel isolated from the outside destruction. No wonder most professionals have a pair of sony mdr although they use other most expensive high-end ones.

They deliver a very wide frequency response from 10 hertz to 20-kilohertz makes them crystal clear and pristine.

If you are looking for cheap high-quality vocal recording headphones I Highly recommend you choose between these two because not only they are used by professional music artist and producers but they are also affordable for most people. If you can afford a higher range I recommend:

Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250

These are a High-end pair of headphones, They cost almost double the ones I already recommended solely due to a Premium design, enhanced sound quality, and overall Comfort. See current price on Amazon .

The two headphones I have reviewed above are not much for Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro.

But overall I would say in terms of isolation and sound quality all sound almost the same. except for the fact that these are slightly enhanced but overall, I think it’s the same.

What makes Beyerdynamic stand out is the design features which is not really that important in my opinion. The feedback is incredibly positive and most use them.

are they worth it? my answer is yes and No. If you can afford these and looking for premium feel and look then yes definitely but if you are tight on a budget it’s best you purchase the ones above.

Buyers Guide: How to Pick The Best Headphones For Recording Vocals

Type:

There are two types of headphones used in studios which are:

  •  Open Back headphones: These are mostly used for mixing
  • Closed-Back headphones: these are often used for singing and recording tracks

Make sure you pick the right type for your purpose.

Comfortability:

how comfortable the headphones are is very important especially in the long run when you will be wearing them for hours. you want a pair that you can wear for a longer period of time without any discomfort.

Sound Quality:

I know this one is a given but I often see people overlooking this and only purchasing based on the brand name and marketing. Please make sure that you look at every detail before you decide to purchase.

Price:

very important because some products are over-priced and you may fall into this trap whereas there are other quality ones that are cheaper and can save you a couple of dollars by comparing the price.
